Kidzoona, Dusit Zoo, and The Speakeasy

Jeff and Vivian had Friday off for the King's birthday.  In Thailand, each day is assigned a color, and "your" color is the day you were born on.  The king is yellow, so all weekend long most people were wearing yellow shirts.  One of Vivian's P.E. shirts is yellow and Elena has some yellow onesies, but we're generally short on yellow clothing, so we did the best we could.  The queen's color is blue, and I did much better with that.

For Jeff's second Father's Day I gave him most of the day off.  In the morning I went to Kidzoona with a friend who has a baby boy almost exactly Elena's age and a son one year younger than Vivian.  The baby ball pit was Elena's favorite.  All the kids had a great time.

To continue the family fun theme, on Saturday we went to Dusit Zoo.  It's a simple zoo in a lovely park area on the outskirts of Bangkok.  It's out our way, so it only takes about 30 minutes to get there, and it was a straight shot on the highway.  Young has talked about Dusit Zoo a lot, so we invited her to come with us.

When we first came in, we saw orangutans walking around with their minders and a white elephant posing for pictures.

There were lots of pretty walkways and a big lake in the middle of the zoo.

Vivian had fun posing for pictures.

She and Jeff discovered a raised walkway around half of the zoo that put you up with the giraffes and the monkeys, so we followed that around for a while.

There were some really beautiful animals there.

We came down off the walkway at the hippo enclosure.

Sure enough, one demonstrated while we were watching.  There was also a hippo in another enclosure who was out of the water for lunch time.

The zoo keepers had set up a table with the fruits and vegetables the hippo was supposed to eat for lunch.  For a small donation, you could reach over the wall to his enclosure and feed him part of his meal.  They even had a stool for the smaller helpers, so Vivi stepped right up.

After that we fed the humans lunch and then headed back home.  Jeff and I needed a little time to rest before the office holiday party that night.  It was at another roof top bar, The Speakeasy.  It was in a lovely hotel, and the set up was really nice, but it was only on the 25th floor, so there wasn't as much of a breeze.

I realize that it is slightly ridiculous for me to complain about this, but after you've experienced a bar on the 56th floor, it's hard to come down from that.  Luckily, the great company more than made up for the lower altitude, and we ended up having a fun night.  After all that fun though, we opted for a quiet Sunday at home.
