There's always lots going on between school and all the other activities the girls have. Most important though, was celebrating Elena's actual birthday.
It was a school day, so I got up early to make her blueberry muffins for breakfast. When she got home from school, Jeff presented her with her big gift, a phone.
He had set it up for her, so that she could listen to music on the bus. Luckily, since it only has music on it, she hasn't gotten sucked into it.
I'm not usually a fan of birthday parties, but Elena insisted that she wanted to have one, so we invited over a group of her friends for Saturday afternoon. I made her traditional chocolate cupcake, which she taste tested to make sure they were acceptable for her friends.
Everyone sang for her and seemed to enjoy the treats.
After they all left though, she was exhausted, so at least now she understands why I'm not a fan of birthday parties.
Vivian's rock band played at an event for Black History Month and at the Cultural Celebration. I'm glad that she's getting to try out all different kinds of musical styles.
This year's school musical production was Matilda, and it was a 5-12 production, so Vivi and Elena were both in it. Vivian was Miss Honey, and she was fantastic, as always.
Elena sung and danced her heart out as one of the school kids, but she'll always be our Matilda.
She had a lot of fun with her class's debate unit, and was by far the most convincing presenter.
She's also been doing Girl Scouts and worked really hard on her car for the Pinewood Derby. She especially enjoyed sanding it down.
It was called "Cherry on Top", although we had to remove one of the cherries to meet the weight requirements.
The embassy had a nice Easter brunch with activities for the kids. Poor Viv had an AP mock exam, but the rest of us went to check it out.
There was a fun egg hunt around the grounds of the ambassador's residence, but Elena's favorite part was the petting area with bunnies.
Even though Viv missed out on the Easter dressing up, she did us one better the next weekend with her fabulous prom dress.
While I think the prom itself was about what you would expect from a high school dance, Viv and her friends all looked fantastic, and she had so much fun hanging out with them.
Our family Easter celebration was a trip to the Dead Sea, which is less than an hour from Amman. We stayed at the Marriott there, which had lovely grounds, a huge family suite, and a yummy Italian restaurant. What more could you want for a weekend?
Jeff and Elena had a lot of fun playing at the pool.
We had a beautiful sunset view from our room's balcony.
And there was a belly dancer at dinner. She was really sweet and came by to show Elena some moves.
We all got in lots of good reading time too.
It was a nice, easy get away.
When we got back we discovered that chocolate bunnies had laid jelly bean eggs all over the table. Happy Easter!
