Finger Lakes Part 2

Dad and I started off the next day with another walk.  This time, we walked towards Long Point State Park, which involved walking along the road.

It's a nice little park with boat access, a playground, a swimming area, and it does indeed come to a point.

We had to get back and get cleaned up though, because we had a series of adventures planned for the day.  First on the agenda was the Ithaca's Farmers Market.

We decided that they didn't have the best produce selection, but there were LOTS of lunch options.  We tried food from several different places, and Elena managed to try enough things to earn ice cream.

After the market, we drove around the west side of the lake to visit the Buttonwood Grove winery, since we had been so impressed by their wines the night before.  It was a lovely location.

They had an outdoor seating area, and a gentleman playing acoustic guitar and singing, so the girls set up out there, while the adults tasted some wines.  Our next planned stop was more kid friendly, a cheese tasting at Muranda Dairy.

They had a play area outside for the kids, but Elena was more interested in cheese tasting.  Vivian still doesn't like cheese.

Elena commandeered my cheese score sheet and a good portion of my tasting samples.  Luckily, there were 16 samples.

After the tasting, we found comfy seats on the back porch.

It was a nice way to end a busy day, and we brought home several kinds of cheese.

In the evening, we sat on the back porch enjoying the cool breeze and hoping for a good sunset.

Unfortunately, it was still pretty overcast.

The next day, Mom and I finally got a chance to go check out the Mackenzie Childs pottery store up the road.  Neither one of us had ever heard of the brand before, but we figured, since it was nearby, we should check it out.  The place itself, was very nicely set up.

The signature pattern is a black and white check, but over time, they added florals and lots of other designs.  We had a lot of fun looking around the store, most of which looked like it would have fit in perfectly at a Mad Hatter's tea party.

There were a couple pieces that tickled my fancy, but I knew Jeff would hate them, and they were ridiculously expensive.

Once a year, they have a barn sale with seriously discounted prices.  It turns out that this year's is next week.  We were a little sad about missing it until we heard that they were expecting 26,000 people!  We decided we much preferred browsing the nearly empty shop.  The grounds were also lovely, and they had a house you could tour.

Every room is decorated with the merchandise.  Mom decided she had maxed out at the store, so we went back to our lake house for an alfresco lunch.

The plan for the afternoon was to take the kids to the swimming area at Long Point, but when we got there, we found out the swimming area was closed.  We tried to get the kids into the lake by the house, but they weren't quite that adventurous.

Elena was very upset about not getting the swimming time she had expected.

She consoled herself with some daddy daughter reading time.

Mom and Dad went to another lake to try a restaurant for dinner.  We were worried they would miss the sunset, which was spectacular, but they got back in time for the big finish.

The clouds ended up in a reverse rainbow, which I couldn't capture with my camera, but which was spectacular to see.
