Hong Kong - Part 2

Our main adventure for day two was taking the Ngong Ping 360, which is a cable car, up to the Big Buddha.  They have a regular cable car and a "crystal cabin" with a glass floor.  You can guess which one the height junkies got ;-)  We decided that it was our favorite Hong Kong experience.

Our friends met us at our apartment, and then we took the MTR together to the end of the line and the cable car.

We had purchased vouchers ahead of time, which helped us skip a good portion of the line.  There was also a separate line for the crystal cabin cars, which helped shorten the wait.  There were eight people total in our group, and each cable car held eight, so it worked out perfectly.  We hopped in and off we went.  It was about a 25 minute ride each way, with two turns in the route.  It was incredible to be going over the water and the mountains.

Of course, everyone's favorite part was the glass floor.

There was a path, with lots of stairs, going up the mountain to the big Buddha as well.  We watched the people walking along it and were thankful for our cable car.  As we got closer to the top, we could see the Big Buddha and the town around it.

They had some cool photo ops after you got off the cable car.  As usual, Elena refused to cooperate and Vivian hammed it up.

We found a nice spot for lunch outside, since the weather was really pleasant.  Vivian and Jeff got the roasted duck and were very happy.  We also got the mixed grill for everyone to try.

After a big lunch, we walked over to the steps leading up to the Big Buddha, but we decided not to climb all the way up.  Instead, we walked around the village for a while, and then headed back to the cable cars.  On the way back, we had an entire cable car to ourselves, which was nice.

We took the MTR back to our apartment, and Elena refused to sit down.  She was determined to stand and hold onto the pole like Daddy.  Luckily, it wasn't very crowded, and she did a great job of not falling down or banging into the pole.  We were all pretty impressed.

We had a bit of a rest, and then headed out for our evening adventure.  In Hong Kong, all the museums are free on Wednesdays, and the science museum got great reviews, so we headed there.  It worked out great, because it wasn't very crowded, and there were two families we knew from Bangkok there, so the kids could run around and explore together.  Elena got an adopted granny who helped her play with the air ball.

Vivian was having fun looking through a microscope, so of course Elena wanted to try it too.

One of Elena's favorite parts was the large intestine display.  You could pull a string to see how long your intestine really is.

When Vivian ran off to explore with the big kids, Jeff helped Elena learn about electrical circuits.

It was a fun and educational end to a great day.
