Elena the Fabulous

January was a great month for Elena. Not only was it her birthday, but she also made her starring stage debut as Thomas O'Malley in Aristocats Jr.. Her acting was fantastic, but she really glowed when she got to sing and dance.

They had a cast A and a cast B for the different performances (and insurance, because kids often get sick), so when she wasn't Thomas O'Malley, she had a great time being an alley cat.

We now have two kids who love the stage, so I'm sure there are many more great performances in our future.

Elena's birthday was on a Monday, but the celebrations started the Saturday before with a trip to the mall.

She really wanted to get her ears pierced for her tenth birthday. We had to wait a bit until two people were available to do both ears at the same time, but then it was done, and she handled it really well. She's very pleased with her sparkly ears.

Sunday afternoon was birthday tea at the Ritz, which is something she now regards as normal. We are in trouble.

Still, nothing quite beat waking up the morning of her actual birthday and being 10!

She celebrated at school with chocolate cupcakes,

and we had a special snack ready for her when she came home.

After dinner it was cake and presents.

She's especially excited to have gotten a new Sorry! game. Our other one accidentally got sent to storage, and she's been asking about it for a while now.

She also got some new paints.

But one of her favorite things to do is just hang out at the pool and live her best life. She has had a great first decade.
