And Back to School

We had a few weeks before school started again. I go back before the girls, but we still made time for fun as a family and just as the Goerss Girls. We revisited some of our favorite restaurants.

Viv and I went to get our hair done. She doesn't like it when I take pictures of the process, but I just can't resist.

The finished effect is always stunning, of course.

Both girls came with me to get our nails done,

and we went to see the Barbie movie. The girls had to have a turn in the Barbie box in front of the theater.

Before we knew it though, it was back to early morning breakfast and getting ready for school.

I almost forgot to take a first day of 10th and 4th grade picture, but luckily remembered right before Vivian dashed off to high school.

Both girls had a great first day and are very happy with their classes. Vivian's first week was particularly tense, because there were auditions for the high school production of Shrek the Musical. She had been working hard all summer on the audition materials, and her hard work paid off. She got Fiona! We are so proud of her, but we also knew it would dominate her schedule for the next couple months.

A bit later in August, Jeff and I went to one of the most unique weddings we've ever been to. We have good friends at the embassy who have been together a while and wanted to get married before bidding season. They'll have a big wedding in the States next summer, but for now, they had a simple civil ceremony, and then invited all their friends to come celebrate at their favorite hot pot restaurant. They go there at least a couple times a month, so the owners were happy to set it up for them, even if they were a bit surprised at the choice. There were about fifty of us there enjoying hot pot in tables of eight. It was a great night.

The next day was all about family fun. The school had its Back to School Bash. Vivian did her thing with her friends, and Jeff and I took Elena around to try out some of the games. The marble maze was really hard,

so Elena regained her mojo with the hula hoop.

Then she cooled off with some froyo while we watched people dunk various principals and assistant principals in the dunk tank.

We found Vivi again and headed home.

The school year was off to a great start.
