Punta Arenas

We started 2020 in Punta Arenas, Chile.

There weren't a lot of tours available, since it was New Year's Day, so originally we had decided to just take it easy for the day, but Mom can't resist penguins, so she booked us all on a boat ride out to an island to see magellanic penguins.

The boat ride was long and pretty low tech, but the boat must have been churning up something, because there were a TON of birds following us.  Vivian and Jeff hung out at the back and got some cool pictures.

When we got to the island, we were welcomed by penguins wandering around the rocky beach.

There was a clearly designated "people path" that took us up to the lighthouse and then back down to the beach.

We figured out where all the seagulls we had seen from the boat lived.  They had more nests on the island than the penguins, but the penguin burrows are my favorite.  I also love how they stand and bask in the sun.

Elena tried some sun basking of her own.

After our fun walk around the island, we went back to the boat and said one last goodbye to the penguins.

It was another two hours back on the boat, so I finally caved and let Elena play some games on my phone.  I didn't realize until we got back to the ship, that she had also been taking selfies.  She left me this gem.

Our kids always keep things interesting.
