Happy Birthday Elena!

We like to let birthday celebrations last a long time in our family, and since Elena's birthday tends to fall around Chinese New Year, she got to leverage her "birthday month" power to get an over the top Hello Kitty cotton candy at Pavilion's Chinese New Year display.

Outside the red and pink color scheme was lovely.

Inside though, it was a bit overwhelming.

It's the year of the rabbit, so there were rabbits everywhere, some animatronic, some made out of flowers, some that were just statues.

The girls had fun with it.

Elena's actual birthday was on a Sunday, but since we knew she would have a swim lesson Sunday morning, and we would have D&D, we decided to do cake and presents a day early. She had no problem with that.

She had picked out the balloons and cake herself at the mall next door, and she did her best to cut the cake herself.

It was quite the cake.

She also got to open her presents. One of her favorites was her own NASA shirt, so that she could be twinsies with Jeff.

She also loved the gumball machine from her grandparents.

On her actual birthday morning, we woke up to find her working on putting it together.

Her birthday outing was tea at the Ritz, and we invited some friends to come along too. She had a lot of fun, and I was glad for a manageably sized celebration.

She finished off her birthday eating more rainbow cake and enjoying her presents.

On Monday, I brought the traditional chocolate cupcakes for her to share with her class at snack.

And at the end of the week, she got one more Chinese New Year overlap when we got a lion dance performance in the gym.

I can't believe she's already nine! She's still our little girl, but she's growing up fast.
