Halloween Covid Style

We figured that in the age of covid, going house to house and getting food from strangers was not a great idea.  Still, we wanted to do something special for the girls.  My mom came to the rescue with a Halloween outdoor concert and magic show, so we had a special activity planned.  Elena wanted to wear her fairy princess costume, but Vivian still needed something, so we masked up and went to Party City to look for a good witch costume.  We got very lucky with the dress and had a little too much fun with accessories.

The week before Halloween was quite a busy one.  The girls and I got our flu shots, and I went to vote early.  There was no line, and I felt really lucky.  I made sure to get the girls stickers too.

Jeff and I had started watching The Queen's Gambit on Netflix.  We weren't sure if it was appropriate for the girls, but they noticed the chess games, and Vivian especially got sucked into the story.  I'm not sure if Elena got the story, but she was fascinated by the chess, so I woke up on Halloween morning to find her iPad discarded and a chess board set up.

The concert was at 1, so we had an early lunch and got ready for a magical Halloween.

Since my mom knew the people organizing it, we got great seats, front and center.

Jeff and Vivi had some selfie fun while we waited for the show to start.

The main performer was a cellist and a magician. In the second part of the show he was joined by a violin/fiddle playing dragon.  Vivian enjoyed the show, but Elena thought it was absolutely fantastic, and she asked to have her picture taken with the performers.

After the show, we stopped by my parents' house for a visit and some candy.

When we got home, the girls changed into their Halloween leisure wear, and we watched part of The Nightmare Before Christmas and several of the Simpsons Halloween episodes.

Vivian went to hang out with her friend and compare candy, so Elena had fun with Vivi's witch hat.

It was definitely different from past Halloweens, but I feel like we still managed to have fun, and there was plenty of candy, which is the most important part.
