Starting School Again

We just got back from an incredible trip to Ecuador, but I realized I haven't written a blog since August, so I have to fill in the blanks before I can move on to our vacation.

Starting our second year at CGB was much easier.  We knew what we were getting into, and this year I have a regular teaching job in secondary teaching English and history.  It pays more, but it also keeps me busier.  Luckily, the girls don't need as much support from me this year.  Vivian is in Year 6 (5th grade) and Elena is in Reception (Pre-K).  They both have wonderful teachers and lots of friends, so there's very little "momming" that needs to be done.

We've been enjoying what our local neighborhood has to offer, including strange displays at Andino.

Jeff and I took Vivian to see Crazy Rich Asians, which we all loved and which made us home sick for Asia.

We also took a family trip to the Atlantis mall to find the new home of our favorite nails place.

We had to wait for an appointment for the three Goerss girls, so we went to Hard Rock Cafe for lunch.  It says it opens at 12, but no one came to take our order before 12:20.  The food is good, but we've generally found restaurant service to be slow at best around here.  We're working on being patient with it.

Another favorite local place, Cachivaches, put out their Halloween display, so we knew it was time to go costume shopping.

Vivian couldn't find a Black Widow or Gamora costume, but Elena found a cute, inexpensive minion costume, so it was a success.

Elena is growing up.  The other day, she put on one of Vivi's favorite shirts from when she was four, and I had to take a picture with the picture.

Elena is also into taking pictures, and insisted on borrowing my phone to document her construction creations.

Vivian is in full friends phase.  Her friends are the most important thing in her world.  Luckily, she has a good group of them.

They're also all very tolerant of Elena playing with them.

She has lots of friends of her own too.

It's never dull around here.  The football season has started, and we're hosting football Sundays and a fantasy football league.  It's a great way to get to know new people who have just gotten here, as well as spend time with family friends who have cute new additions.

There have also been some other seasonal get togethers like the Pumpkin Patch at the Ambassador's.

And I had my first teacher in service day, which was at a different country club with a fabulous view.

There was also a welcome party for new office members on a rooftop terrace with a great cityscape view.

So basically, we've been keeping busy with school, work, and social weekends.  It's been a good start to our second year here.
